The thrilling extra-inning contest that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Toronto Blue Jays by one run drew a aggregate over 50 million watchers in the US, Canada, and Japanese markets. MLB reported this is the most-watched World Series Game 7 since the 1991 showdown between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Breakdown

Last Saturday’s memorable game secured over 27 million audience members on Fox Sports channels, its Spanish-language channel and their streaming platforms. According to Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It also is the top-rated Fall Classic game after the 2017 final game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which drew over 29 million. This marks a 16% increase over the previous finale between the Washington Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 placed fourth, Game 4 was 7th, the fifth game came in eighth, and the third game landed in 13th place.

International Viewership Figures

In the Canadian market, the climactic game drew over 11 million watchers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This made it the highest-rated English-language program in Canada since the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding contest began at 9 PM local time, it averaged 12M. This came after last Friday’s sixth game – where World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six innings – averaged 13.1M spectators, making it the most-watched World Series game on a single network in the country.

Overall Totals and Patterns

The entire seven-match World Series averaged 15.71M viewers on Fox, a two percent rise from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This marks the first time since 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has seen audience growth for two consecutive seasons.

Counting the Game 1 telecast on Univision, the total American viewership was 16.1 million. The overall World Series viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.
